Bmw 8 series gran coupe -g17- seat test

The 8 series is complete. And as is so often the case, you’ve saved the best for last. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé is without a doubt the crowning glory of the new luxury ensemble from Munich. Fortunately, hardly anything has been deleted from the previously shown BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept, but almost everything has been taken over into the series. A first exclusive seat sample in the four-door coupé.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé: slightly different from the A-pillar

Unofficially, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé follows the 6 Series Gran Coupé, but it has nothing to do with that. Starting with the front design, where the nose is pulled down low, the apron makes the car deep and wide and everything from the kidneys to the headlights underlines this look. But that is also the case with the BMW 8 Series Coupé and Convertible. The differences only begin in the profile.

With the heart of a big cat- jaguar f-pace s test

The C-X17 study was followed by the Jaguar F-Pace, the British first performance crossover. The Jaguar F-Pace S shouldn’t be the last, but let’s see for the moment what happens when you pack the drive of an F-Type into a Land Rover. At first glance, it is far more fun to drive than a Land Rover could ever produce. Thanks go to the 380 horses under the hood of the F-Pace S..

The first but not the last of its kind: the F-Pace

Theoretically, the F-Pace weighs only 1,665 kilograms thanks to its lightweight aluminum construction. But if the current top engine with a 3.0-liter V6 compressor is ordered instead of the 180 hp diesel variant, the curb weight increases to 1,861 kg. There is then 380 PS (450 Nm) directly from the Jaguar F-Type. The standard all-wheel drive has also been adopted from the F-Type models and normally sends all of the power to the rear axle. The drive torque is divided to a maximum of 50/50. The F-Pace is always kept in line with torque vectoring via braking.

With volvo over snow and ice

If a good friend asked you whether you would like to step on the gas a little bit, then as a child of the Ruhr area and a car lover you would ask yourself two things: “Where, if you please?” And “With what?”.

Well, one thing can be answered quickly: where? In the south of Germany, in Austria, in the Driving Center Hintersee. But if the answer to question two were “with a Volvo”, you would certainly look skeptical at first.

Volvo is generally known for comfort and functionality rather than driving fun and action, but wrongly! And if you think about it for a moment, it doesn’t sound that far: Who could brave cool temperatures and take advantage of them instead than a Scandinavian?!

Withdrawal from classic motorsport and into formula e

Last day, Mercedes-Benz announced that it was leaving the DTM and entering Formula E and now Porsche will also follow the approach. Both manufacturers are giving classic motorsport the fatal blow in two series. The DTM without Mercedes can almost already pack up and Porsche is withdrawing from the LMP1 program in return, so Toyota is (currently) alone there.

Mercedes-Benz is withdrawing from the DTM

First a look at Mercedes-Benz, which with all works teams are saying goodbye to the German Touring Car Masters at the end of the 2018 season. With just under a year off, you will then start the 2019/2020 Formula E season. Whether this is about marketing or really a consistent development goal, everyone can imagine for themselves. Because as Toto Wolff himself says “The years in the DTM will always remain a large part of our motorsport history”, the DTM also lives from the participation of the Stuttgart-based company. You only have to think back to the time when it was extremely hot a few laps on the Nordschleife. And now, according to Jens Thiemer, the main thing is to “demonstrate the performance of our attractive battery-electric vehicles from the EQ technology brand.” The question that arises is whether it will be the most expensive marketing campaign of all time?

Winter tires bridgestone blizzak lm001 in the long run

Anyone who has still not converted to winter tires can no longer be helped. Although the temperatures do not suggest it, it is winter. The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 has been rolling through Germany, which is unfortunately rarely snowed in, for over three months. But this is exactly what the manufacturers are targeting, because the Blizzak LM001 has done extremely well in the last few months since October, especially in the wet.

Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 on wet road

Contrary to the usual winter tire tests, we are not on the road with the Blizzak LM001 at the North Pole, but rather in real test areas. Exactly where it is ultimately driven. The winter rubber has already unwound a few thousand kilometers and has been looking forward to every rain shower. The ADAC already put the recommended stamp for wetness on the Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 last year.

Winter tire test- michelin alpin 5

In fact, the Alpin A4 from Michelin was so good that it didn’t need an update. Since its introduction in 2010, the rubber from France has received numerous top marks in tests. And yet, in May 2014, Michelin brought the successor to the very important inch size of the compact class. More precisely, the mass-produced tire, called Michelin Alpin 5, is delivered from 15 to 17 inches. We were already able to test how good the new symmetrical V-like profile with lamellar cut really is on a frozen lake in Finland – and that is to say, the tire has grip!

Winter is approaching- prepare now with new kungs products

Even if it doesn’t look like it outside, winter is literally just around the corner. So now it is time to prepare for the coming wet, cold and probably snowy season. It is not only important to pack yourself well and thickly, but also to prepare your own car. The Finnish car accessories manufacturer KUNGS now has a new product on offer, which is specifically focused on the rather wet rather than snowy German region.

AQUA-IS for the mild winter in Germany

The new AQUA-IS is an ice scraper with a squeegee. That is to say, a variant that can easily free the car from ice but also hoarfrost. The rotating scraper blade and the sharp ice teeth take care of the frost on the panes if necessary. With a furrow to remove ice and snow from the wiper blades, even such often forgotten little things are thought of. By means of the folding function, the wiper head can be placed in a horizontal and vertical position, which on the one hand makes handling easier and on the other hand simplifies stowing. At 200 grams, the polypropylene and polycarbonate model is also very light. And until winter finally strikes, the rubber lip is used, which can remove the hoarfrost from the windows without leaving any streaks.

Will volvo replace the v40 with a -further- crossover-

Actually, the new Volvo V40 should be presented this year, at least that’s how it should run according to the product cycle. Because the current Volvo V40 has been rolling off the assembly line since 2012, making it the last Volvo model on the old Ford C1 platform. But the classic market for compact vehicles has meanwhile lost so much of its importance that a “direct” successor to the Volvo V40 will probably no longer come.

No direct successor to the Volvo V40

The rumor comes from the hatchback country number one UK. Lex Kerssemakers, member of the Volvo board of directors, is said to have told autocar that the V40 would not be replaced directly, but by a high-quality model. In other words, the classic compact car will give way to the next crossover. The reason for this is not only the ongoing SUV boom, but also Volvo customers.

Why apple carplay gets in its own way

The list of vehicles that support Apple CarPlay is long. Now more than 100 pieces, including common models from Audi, Citroen, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Suzuki, Seat, Skoda, VW and Volvo. But effectively this does not help us, since practically nothing has changed since the introduction of Apple CarPlay. MirrorLink (Android) has long outstripped the system, because more is possible with it. The reason CarPlay is stagnating is Apple itself.

It’s not like the developers aren’t making an effort. Apart from Spotify, there is no support for other (globally) used apps. Mainly, among 12 examples, apps from the American app store for Apple CarPlay are mentioned. The reason for the stagnation is Apple itself. Because Cupertino does not react to the developers. There are several proven examples, for example from the podcast player Castro, whereby Apple does not respond to the developers’ inquiries.

What is life like with the audi tt roadster-

The icon Audi TT, first presented in 1999, has only changed moderately for over 15 years, and the same applies to the open Audi TT Roadster. How does everyday life look like with a two-seater, a soft top and a mediocre trunk volume? Not bad at all if the weather cooperates.

Audi TT Roadster in the everyday test

Basically it is only 25 liters that the Audi TT Roadster loses in trunk compared to the Coupé. And that is just too ridiculous for the Audi to have a 39 kilogram soft top built in, which opens or closes in 10 seconds. The Audi TT Roadster can be packed in the trunk of 280 liters when required. That’s not enough for two suitcases, but for a lot more than you would think from the outside. It goes deep into the throat, ergo, everything that fits through the opening is also sunk. If necessary, there are a few smaller compartments in the cockpit, such as the astonishingly deep glove compartment between the seats.
